Fractured Atlas Fiscally Sponsored Campaign
Jessica TaylorDAMAGEDANCE is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions for the purposes of Jessica TaylorDAMAGEDANCE must be made payable to Fractured Atlas and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.

Jessica Taylor/DAMAGEDANCE seeks, through dance, to explore the diversity of the human experience, increasing our awareness, understanding, and appreciation of our unique struggles, questions, and triumphs.

On May 7-9, 2015, DAMAGEDANCE will be celebrating 5 Years of innovative and thought-provoking dance through a three performance season at the beautiful Dixon Place Mainstage Theater in New York City.  Through this important milestone, we plan to present one of our most exciting, challenging and complex works ever – a new work by Jessica Taylor entitled autopilot.

The concept behind this work is a behavioral fascination of Taylor’s, playing with two senses, the ears and the eyes.  It is a collaboration with sound designer Matthew Polis and musicians Brad Meehan, David Craig, Ximena Borges, Dane Markle-Klapp, David Greiman and Kevin LeBoeuf, with the vision of each dancer in possession of a set of headphones.  The master track will be a mashup of different continuous tracks created by the above musicians, but each dancer will have only one fed into their headphones through a personal mp3 player.  Whether or not a dancer is wearing their headset will determine if their track is heard only by them or by the audience.  Each dancer will remove and replace their headset multiple times, with all sound elements in perfect synchronization.

autopilot strongly reinforces the JT/DD mission of presenting challenges and discomforts to artists, seeing their natural reactions, and helping them to overcome them as they perform both together and as individuals on the stage.  Another part of this challenge is that the tunnel vision of each dancer implied while wearing their headset is a challenge to living in the present, a reality experienced by Taylor’s own research choosing to connect with people rather then close myself off during her daily commutes.

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN!  Your contributions will help us get the necessary equipment for the work (headphones, mp3 players, music software), will pay stipends towards our artistic collaborators and dancers, and will also help to fund other production components including light design by the amazing Lauren Libretti.

It is essential that we have this equipment not only for performance, but for creation and rehearsal, as the dancers’ experiences are different then that of the audience, and for us to become as familiar as possible with the work’s complexity in order to present a seamless performance and audience experience.

autopilot is just one element of many in our amazing 5 Year Anniversary Celebration plans…we look forward to keeping you posted every step of the way!  Thank you so much in advance for your time and support!!!
