BUY TICKETS!The annual New York Women in Film & Television Muse Awards is an exciting, glamorous luncheon honoring prominent women in the film, television and digital media fields who are recipients of NYWIFT’s prestigious Muse Award for Vision and Achievement and the Loreen Arbus Changemaker Award. The event is a highlight of the New York City holiday season in the entertainment industry, and is attended by an enthusiastic audience of 1100 leading executives and creators from every major studio, network and film production facility as well as the independent film scene.This year’s Muse Awards honorees include: Mary Bailey, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Dawn Ostroff and Wanda Sykes. The Loreen Arbus Changemaker Award will be given to Abigail Disney.
Mary Bailey has worked with a vast range of filmmakers, film artists, actors and producers during a career that spans nearly fifty films and ten television projects. She began her association with director Mike Nichols in 1988 on Working Girl and their collaboration continues. Her next project with the director is the upcoming HBO feature Master Class. She has been an Associate Producer on Mr. Nichols’ films since Closer. She has credentials in visual effects films, notably with Barry Sonnenfeld for all three Men In Black movies. She has also worked with Sofia Coppola, Noah Baumbach, Rupert Goold, Nancy Meyers and Jonathan Demme and producer Scott Rudin.
Abigail Disney is a filmmaker, philanthropist and activist based in New York City. She produced the acclaimed documentary, Pray the Devil Back to Hell, which won best documentary at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival and has played in theaters and on Television around the world. Along with Gini Reticker and Pamela Hogan, Disney created the five-part film series for PBS, Women, War & Peace. She is currently at work on a new film, also for PBS, highlighting the key role of women in the Arab Awakening. In partnership with Nobel Peace Prize recipient Leymah Gbowee, Abigail is co-founder of the Gbowee Peace Foundation as well as the Daphne Foundation, a social change foundation that provides grants to grassroots organizations working with low-income communities in New York City.
Maggie Gyllenhaal is one of the great young actresses of today. She gained critical acclaim and an Oscar nomination for “Best Supporting Actress” for her portrayal of Jean Craddock in Crazy Heart and for her starring role in Secretary. She has won numerous awards, including a Golden Globe nomination for “Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical” and an Independent Spirit Award nomination for “Best Actress.” Gyllenhaal has starred in many award-winning films and made her feature film debut in 1992, in Waterland and co-starred in Donnie Darko, alongside her brother, Jake Gyllenhaal. This summer, Maggie can also be seen headlining the BBC/Sundance original series The Honourable Woman. Maggie will make her Broadway debut in Tom Stoppard’s The Real Thing, opposite Ewan McGregor and Cynthia Nixon.
Dawn Ostroff has held senior roles at 20th Century Fox Television, Michael Jacobs Productions and the Kushner-Locke Company. Prior to joining Conde Nasté Entertainment as President, Ostroff launched and led the new CW broadcast network, being responsible for all aspects of its creative efforts, and developed a multitude of groundbreaking hit series. Ostroff also served as president of UPN Network where she oversaw all areas of the network’s business. Before that, she was the Executive Vice President of Entertainment at Lifetime Television, where she oversaw programming and production, leading the network to a rise from sixth place to #1-rated cable network in prime time.
Wanda Sykes has been called “one of the funniest stand-up comics” by her peers and ranks among Entertainment Weekly’s 25 Funniest People in America. Her company, Push It Productions, produced a set of specials, Herlarious, which aired in 2013 and 2014 on Own and was the recipient of a 2014 Gracie Award. She has starred in countless comedy shows, film and Television, including the Amazon Prime show Alpha House, The Wanda Sykes Show, Wanda Does It on Comedy Central, Wanda Sykes and the Chris Rock Show on HBO. In 2010 she won a GLAAD award for promoting a good image of equal rights for gays and lesbians. Her first book titled Yeah, I Said It, published by Simon and Schuster, hit bookstores in September 2004.
