Beyond Borders:Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase & Awards

Overview
Since not all filmmakers will be accepted into official competition or recognized for their accomplishments by the Festival de Cannes, Yolonda Brinkley, CEO of YRB International Exposure and the creator of Beyond Borders: Diversity in Cannes is presenting Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase & Awards (DICSFSA) at the 67th Cannes Film Festival.

Created to encourage filmmakers from unique backgrounds to share their stories during the Cannes Film Festival, the inaugural Diversity in Cannes Film Showcase and Awards will promote the work of diverse (race, gender, age, religion, physical ability and sexual orientation) filmmakers and recognize them globally for their achievements in film.

Date & Location
May 2014 during Cannes Film Festival (exact date & location TBD but between 5/18-5/20) Previous Diversity in Cannes events were held at the 5-star Majestic Barriere Hotel.

Eligibility

All filmmakers and films promoting diversity of race, gender, age, religious affiliation, physical ability and sexual orientation are eligible for submission.

All film genres are eligible for submission including animation, comedy, documentary, drama, horror & sci-fi

Category 1- filmmakers attending the 66th Festival de Cannes who have been accepted into the Cannes Short Film Corner are eligible to submit their films for consideration

Category 2- filmmakers who are NOT attending the 66th Festival de Cannes, but want to share their films on a global platform including those accepted into the 2013 Cannes Short Film Corner, those previously screened at the CSFC and all others. You got a short film you can submit it!
(1-2 films will be selected from category 2&3)

Category 3- filmmakers interested in submitting to the Cannes Short Film Corner, but haven’t submitted yet. (contact us via the Beyond Borders: Diversity in Cannes Facebook Page for submission info)

Top eight films from ALL eligible entries as determined by Beyond Borders: Diversity in Cannes and its partners will be considered in competition and screened during the Beyond Borders: Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase & Awards in May 2014 during the Cannes Film Festival. Winners will be determined by jury and announced at the showcase.

Submission Guidelines

There is no limit to the number of entries as long as they meet the requirements below.

Judging to Determine Finalists

All Entries received during the Open Call for Entries will be reviewed by the Contest Administrator for eligibility and compliance with the entry requirements. Following the Contest Administrator’s review, eligible entries will be made available for judging by a panel of Beyond Borders: Diversity in Cannes partners. Films will be judged on the elements below and competition films will be selected from all eligible entries. Decision of the judges is final!

* Technical Execution: Camera/Sound/Lighting/Editing

* Overall Impression

By agreeing to showcase your work with Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase, you agree to the following:
* Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase & Awards is not responsible for any lost, damaged, or stolen items, including films in any medium, while en-route or in our possession, on or off of festival grounds.

* All fees are non-transferable and non-refundable.

* Applicant claims all liability and damages in relation to any screening of Applicant’s submission to which Applicant does not hold complete rights to its content.

* Applicant is responsible for clearing all rights to the content of the film prior to exhibition.

* Applicant grants DIC Short Film Showcase & Awards the right to use excerpts from accepted films including audio, video, names and images to promote the festival.

* the rights-holder allows the DIC Short Film Showcase to screen the submitted work, in full, at the 2013 DIC Short Film Showcase & Awards without further communication or approval.

* Applicant permits the DIC Short Film Showcase to retain one or more copies of Applicant’s film for use in the Showcase archives.

* Applicant permits the DIC Short Film Showcase to create DVD copies of Applicants film for use by Showcase staff & associates to facilitate the pre-screening process.

* Applicant agrees to allow the Showcase to release applicants included contact information and screener copy to distribution partners of the showcase for consideration, and that such partners may contact the applicant directly via the provided contact information in order to discuss or close a distribution deal, with the understanding that Applicant is under no obligation to accept any offered deal.

* The decision by the Beyond Borders: Diversity in Cannes contest administrator and partners shall be final and not be subject to any appeal, dispute, arbitration or adjudication.

Reserved Rights:
* The Beyond Borders: Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase & Awards administrator shall have the right to reject any submission that if in his/her judgment, does not meet a minimum standard of technical achievement

* The Beyond Borders:Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase & Awards administrator shall have the right, at his/her sole discretion, to amend, delete or otherwise change the official rules of the Beyond Borders: Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase & Award at any time during the contest period for any reason. Please check the website of Facebook page periodically to make note of any changes.
