Beautiful handmade clutches brought to you by a collaboration between Modahnik and Mamafrica

I am partnering with MamAfrica, a not-for-profit organization based in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo that exists to provide healing arts programs, education and economic opportunity for my countrywomen.

Your support will create sustainable employment for the “Mamas” and provide them with resources so that they can support their families and become independent.

I realize how it could have been me, and I want to act as their conduit to use my designs and my patterns to create fair trade jobs so that Congolese women can support themselves and their families by making these clutches.

I truly believe that sustainable jobs in Africa are the key to not only alleviating poverty, but also empowering women.

Please join with me in creating “products with a purpose” with the Mamas of MamAfrica!

About MamAfrica

MamAfrica exists to change the lives of the women and the future of the children that have been most affected by conflict in Democratic Republic of Congo. By offering seminars on nutrition, maternal child health, family planning, and literacy and employment in the production of material items, MamAfrica believes in a holistic approach to change and that when you invest in a women’s life, she can move mountains.

When you invest in a product handmade by the women of MamAfrica, you are giving the Mamas a chance at a life they have always imagined. A chance to send their children to school to receive an education, a chance to feel strong and beautiful, and a chance to gain independence. MamAfrica is a safe haven for these women to regain belief in themselves, express their voice and collaborate with one another. Each item is handmade in the Democratic Republic of Congo by the women of MamAfrica.

About MODAHNIK

Founded in 2009 by designer Kahindo Mateene, MODAHNIK is known for the mix of vibrant colors with bold prints. Having lived and traveled in Africa, Europe and America, Kahindo expertly combines these different stylistic elements, bringing a unique point of view to her design aesthetic. A native of the The Democratic Republic of Congo, she pulls inspiration from the Avant Garde spirit of the Congolese art and culture. The MODAHNIK woman is a global nomad who views fashion as a creative expression of her individuality. She is classically feminine with an edge and dares to be bold. With a vibrant color story, African-influenced prints are intermixed with modern styles for the sophisticated woman.

Modern. African. Ethical.

Thank you for your support!

In supporting this project, you take a stance with me in providing opportunities for the women of the Democratic Republic of Congo who might not otherwise have access to fair-trade employment, education, and a safe community.

Help us help MamAfrica by sharing the Mamas’ stories so they are no longer voiceless; creating a space for them to rebuild community; and simply believing in them.

Risks and challengesLearn about accountability on Kickstarter

Although we have produced items abroad before, we are new to producing items through a non-profit organization. However, we have a strong relationship with MamAfrica and are confident that the clutches will be produced in a timely manner.
