Jim Kempner Fine Art is pleased to present Yoko Ono’s Wish Tree as the fall sculpture installation. The Japanese maple will debut on September 28th, 2013 in the 501 West 23rd Street sculpture garden, and will be on display through the fall.Jim Kempner, owner of Jim Kempner Fine Art, remembers first seeing Ono’s Wish Tree at the Peggy Guggenheim Museum in Venice, Italy. Ono debuted the first Wish Tree in 1996 and has since exhibited this work in countless other locations across the world. Viewers are invited to write their wishes on “wish tags” and hang them from the tree branches. The wishes are collected by gallery staff at the end of the show, and returned to Ono. Never reading the tree tags to honor the privacy of the wishers, Ono then sends the tags to be buried around her IMAGINE PEACE TOWER. The 2007 installation in Reykjav\355k, Iceland is dedicated to the memory of her late husband John Lennon and is Ono’s way of joining all wishers with love, hope and togetherness. When reflecting on the beautiful simplicity of the work (all that is needed is a tree, pencils, paper and string), Kempner says “Yoko represents the power of positivity, the power of hope, love, and peace; simply the best of the human spirit.”Jim Kempner Fine Art is located in the heart of Chelsea on the Northwest corner of Tenth Avenue and 23rd Street.
